Teaching content and culture through proficiency-driven instruction

Manipulatives are so much fun for acting out novel chapters! I had planned on purchasing some manipulatives to use with chapter 3 of La Vampirata, but forgot. So I printed clipart, cut out the shapes, and presto change-o we had paper dolls!

And, oh what fun we had!!!
We used our novels as our ‘ship’ and water bottles as the barrel that Sara hides behind.
These students used a real ring and a pair of earbuds to ‘tie the emerald into Sara’s hair.’
And, here, everyone is acting out the motion of being tired and falling asleep in the ship.
All of us had fun connecting to our inner child and cementing more language in our brains. How do you act out the chapters of your novels?
